Meet the Artist
Hazel’s works are known for their originality, artistic beauty and dramatic impact. With a strong sense of colour and attention to composition, the images engage the viewer in creative exploration of the ideas expressed on the canvas.
Hazel is familiar with various mediums and enjoys creating works with impressionistic abstraction. She enjoys sharing her knowledge and inspiration, and in her classes the focus is on designing the picture space through the study of established design principles, as expressed by many of the “Old Masters”, as well as contemporary works. The students become proficient in critiquing their own work.
Hazel’s interest in art grew from her love for colour, nature and people. Travel has heightened her awareness of the natural world, providing inspiration and stimulation. Her work developed under skilful instruction and valued critique from several notable international artists.
Her works of art are successfully entered regularly into many juried exhibitions, including the Surrey Art Gallery and the Federation of Canadian Artists, where she has received numerous awards.
Hazel is a long-time participating member of the South Surrey White Rock Art Society and has participated in many solo and group shows.
Her art continues to be purchased and enjoyed locally and by collectors from many parts of the world.
